At Willow Wellness, we offer GeneSight® testing to help personalize psychiatric treatment. This genetic test looks at how your genes may affect how you respond to certain medications, reducing the guesswork in finding the right prescription.
1. Sample Collection - We collect your DNA using a quick and painless cheek swab—no needles needed.
You can do the swab in our office or at home using a kit provided by GeneSight.
If you choose the at-home option, we’ll give you clear, step-by-step instructions to make sure you collect and return the sample correctly.
2. Insurance and Cost Information - Before submitting your sample, we strongly recommend calling your insurance provider to confirm:
If the test is covered
What portion of the cost you may need to pay
GeneSight reports that the maximum out-of-pocket cost is $300, but many patients pay less depending on their
insurance.
If your plan fully covers the test, your cost may be minimal or even zero.
3. Sample Analysis & Results - Your sample is sent to GeneSight’s certified lab, where it's analyzed for specific genes that affect how your body processes medications.
Results are typically ready in 7–14 days
The report is sent directly to your provider
4. Follow-Up and Review - Your provider will go over your results with you at your next scheduled appointment. The report uses color-coded categories to show which medications are more or less likely to be effective for you based on your genetic makeup.
GeneSight is a supportive tool, not a standalone solution.
It does not replace a full psychiatric assessment, clinical judgment, or regular monitoring of your symptoms.
Your treatment plan will continue to be based on:
A full evaluation of your mental health history and current symptoms
Your treatment goals
Possible side effects and drug interactions
Your past experiences with medications
Psychoeducation and strategies for managing risk and promoting well-being
GeneSight results are meant to support shared decision-making between you and your provider—not replace it.
If you’re unsure how to contact your insurance provider, or need help with any part of the GeneSight process, just let your provider or our office team know—we’re happy to help.
